November is National Caregiver Month

Sutton Homes Memory Care Homes would like to acknowledge the job that caregivers do.Their work is tireless and often goes unheralded. We understand the toll that it can take on the individual and the family. Most of us want to stay at home, but sometimes there is a point where the care becomes too much. If that point has come for your family please know that Sutton Homes is here for you. We treat our residents as family and strive to make our homes feel like a home.

A recent Boston Globe Article sited some interesting facts collected by The National Family Caregivers Association:

  • The value of the services family caregivers provide free is estimated to be $450 billion a year. This is almost twice as much as what is spent on home care and nursing home services combined.
  • About 66 percent of family caregivers are women.
  • Family caregivers spend an average of 20 hours per week providing care. Thirteen percent provide 40 hours of care a week or more.
  • Nearly 80 percent of adults in need of long-term care depend on family and friends for help.
